How to Use THIS Site

The Bay Area ITS site is used for planning and deploying ITS projects. Compliance with the Architecture is required for ITS projects to receive Federal support from the Highway Trust Fund. For more information about using this site (Architecture) for Project Planning and Deployment click here.

This site is built for quick reference and easy navigation between topics. All information specific to a stakeholder is listed under Stakeholder Information. Project specific information is shown here. Project sponsors can also be found in the Project Sequencing Table. The details showing communication connections between projects is shown under Architecture Details.

The site has been designed to be understandable for non-ITS professionals and as such, acronyms and industry jargon has been avoided wherever possible. Abbreviations used throughout the site for Bay Area stakeholder names are defined in the Stakeholder Information. Abbreviations for technical terms within the project list are spelled out in the project inventory, organized by Stakeholders and by Category. ITS related technical terms can be found in the Glossary provided by the National ITS Architecture. Throughout the Architecture there are links definitions, resources, and reference material to further explain ITS architecture topics.

FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS

This Architecture provides all the components required by the FHWA Final Rule and FTA Policy for regional ITS architectures. Where possible throughout this site, laymen's terms are used to improve the usability of the content.  The document has an overall organization that differs from that of most regional ITS architectures for the primary purpose of increasing the architecture's use and accessibility by project sponsors. For ease of mapping that all federal requirements have been met, the table below demonstrates where each component can be found in this site.

FHWA Final Rule/FTA Policy Requirements
Bay Area ITS Architecture
(1) A description of the region; Bay Area Basics
(2) Identification of participating agencies and other stakeholders; Stakeholder Information
(3) An operational concept that identifies the roles and responsibilities of participating agencies and stakeholders in the operation and implementation of the systems included in the regional ITS architecture; Stakeholder Information -> Stakeholder Roles and Responsibilities
(4) Any agreements (existing or new) required for operations, including at a minimum those affecting integration of ITS projects; interoperability of different ITS technologies, utilization of ITS related standards, and the operation of the projects identified in the regional ITS architecture; Stakeholder Information -> Stakeholder Agreements
(5) System functional requirements; Functional Requirements
(6) Interface requirements and information exchanges with planned and existing systems and subsystems (for example, subsystems and architecture flows as defined in the National ITS Architecture); Architecture Details
(7) Identification of ITS standards supporting regional and national interoperability; Standards
(8) The sequence of projects required for implementation of the regional ITS architecture. How Do I Find My Project -> Project Sequencing
